Sierra Security Systems was founded in 1968 by Steven Rapp of Big Pine California.   Steve Rapp installed his first three alarm systems in the small community of Big Pine when he was still in grade school.  His parents and several school teachers inspired him to try to protect several local businesses that were frequently being burglarized.  Rapp took on the task, built his own alarm systems, and put an end to the burglaries.

 

After graduating high school Rapp continued to grow the company buying up the service and repair of a few other alarm systems installed by individuals that had been traveling from Los Angeles to the Owens Valley.   Rapp named the company Sierra Security Systems, Inc. and has continued to grow the company one satisfied customer at a time.

 

In the early days of Sierra Security Systems, Rapp’s alarms were monitored by the local police and sheriffs departments.  In 1982 Sierra Security Systems setup the Eastern Sierra’s first, and to date only, Central Monitoring Station.  All the alarms in the Eastern Sierra were moved to the new dispatching center that subsequently significantly reduced the regions false alarm rate.  As new technologies became available Sierra Security System’s investment in these technologies further reducing the areas false alarm rate.
