Over a year ago, at the onset of Mammoth Yosemite Airport's new commercial air service, we were required by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to provide video monitoring of certain crucial areas of the airport. Our options for the video monitoring included having our own personnel watching video monitors at night and on weekends, or contracting with a remote video monitoring central station. We decided to explore the remote monitoring option. Sierra Security was one of several companies that we requested proposals from.
Sierra Security responded promptly with several proposals, quotations, options, and pricing. Sierra Security had a video monitoring network microwave backbone running up and down the Eastern Sierra, and one option they proposed was to extend the microwave service to the Mammoth Yosemite Airport. At first we were a bit reluctant to believe that a small Eastern Sierra company could provide such video monitoring services, but when we visited their dispatch office in Bishop we saw that they were in fact monitoring remote cameras for several customers one being the Bishop Elementary Schools.
Sierra Security has dispatchers and management on duty 24/7 watching cameras and dispatching the law enforcement when they get an alarm or see something suspicious on the cameras. We decided to go with Sierra Security because they could provide the technology and a reliable dedicated microwave system to the airport for our video monitoring.
Since the installation Sierra Security has responded to our service needs and additional projects in an exceptionally timely manner. The folks at Sierra Security are friendly, courteous, knowledgeable in their industry, and are proactive and care about our security needs. When we had a new gate access system installed by Sierra Security they went out of their way to help the fencing contractor locate the proper equipment. On numerous occasions Sierra Security has performed many tasks above and beyond the scope of their original contract just to provide us service. For a few weeks when the microwave system was having environmental issues, Sierra Security, without us asking them, each night sent personnel to our office and watched the cameras at the airport - they never asked for additional compensation, they said it was their way of doing business.
We at the airport did not know what to expect of the quality of the video system, but when TSA told us that the cameras and the picture clarity was some of the best they have ever seen at an airport, we knew we had made the right choice in choosing Sierra Security Systems.
